Colts of the Week

nlps

As an innovation this year we are going to select an eclectic team based on club performances of our youngsters as they make their mark in senior cricket.
This is something we have done at senior level for a few years with week- by- week appearances earning a place in the end of season DreamTeam.
This year we are going to do something similar for the U18s so that you can all get to know them and celebrate their success.

Here is the first three weeks

The Week 1 Team

Tom Aspinwall (C)

Kendal I

17 year-old from Sedbergh School took 5 for 15  v  Chorley in NPCL

Benji Orr (WK)

Morecambe II

The promising 15year-old had a stumping and then made 26 not out  v St Annes II in PS1

Harry Birkman

St Annes I

Harry only turned 16 in March and is bowling with impressive pace.  Taking the new ball, he claimed 3 for 30 including the wickets of the Morecambe pro and Charlie Swarbrick. He had earlier made an undefeated 25 in the St Annes innings.  NPCL

Ewan Mansford

James Bowman

Netherfield I

A crucial 50-partnership for the 6th wicket with his skipper in a big run chase against Lancaster.   NPCL

The Week 2 Team

No fewer than four lads from our U15 squad make the team this week as they start to do some impressive things with bat and ball at senior level.

With 5 slow bowlers is an indication of strength in depth and how tough the competition for places will be in our inter-league sides.

Also, history is made this week as it is the first time two brothers have made the Colts of the Week team.

If two brothers were going to make the team the money would probably have been on the Flintoffs but they have been beaten to it -  the Birkmans were the first.

Dan Wilson (C)

Longridge I

A very good weekend with 4 for 49 in 15 overs on the Saturday followed by 3 for 33 in the cup on Sunday.  NPCL

Will Beeden (WK)

Torrisholme I

2 victims (including a stumping), no byes and then made 41 batting at number 5.

Harry Birkman

James Ellis

James makes the team for the second consecutive week. Taking the new ball took 2 for 40 in 12 overs against Eccleston.  PS Prem.

Ryan Birkman

St Annes II

Jake Durnell

U17 off-spinner who bagged 3 for 27 in 10 overs in his sides comfortable win over Gt Eccleston II.  PS1

Paddy McWilliam

Flwd & Br II

Although a wicket-keeper as well Paddy earns a place this week for an outstanding innings of 79 opening batting for F&B II. His knock enabled his team to chase down a score of over 200 at Leyland.  PS 1

Joe Pearson

Garstang

II & I

The 15year-old opened the batting for Garstang II and made an impressive 64 against Fleetwood (PS1).  Played in NPCL cup on Sunday and bowled a tidy spell of off-spin to emphasis his all-round ability.

Alfie Dobson

Chorley I

Another from our U15 squad. Alfie made an undefeated 22 to help his side over the line in the NPCL cup on Sunday.

Adam Ball

Garstang

II & I

A good weekend for 15year-old Adam.  2 for 23 in a tidy spell against Fleetwood on the Saturday (PS1) was followed by 3 crucial wickets against Morecambe in the NPCL cup on Sunday.

The Week 3 Team

As might be expected, the team is dominated by the U18 Inter-League squad.  Once more St Annes CC take the plaudits. Last week it was through the two Birkman brothers but this week three of their promising youngsters make the Colts of the Week team - two of them chalking up career bests in the Palace Shield first division so big congratulations to them.

Really good to see another from the U15 squad force their way into the reckoning – this week it is St Annes 2s opener Ashton Charles.

Dan Wilson (C)

Longridge I

Another 4 wickets on Saturday in the NPCL fixture against Garstang.  Followed this with more wickets in the cup on Sunday to help his side through to the semi-finals.  NPCL

James Bradley (WK)

St Annes II

A tidy day behind the stumps with a couple of victims and no byes.  Followed this with a very good half century opening the batting.  PS 1

Harry Birkman

St Annes I

Makes the team for third consecutive week. Spearheading the attack is a lot to put on 16year-old shoulders but once again this weekend, Harry proved up to the task. A tidy new ball spell against Netherfield in the league was followed by wickets against Longridge in the cup.  NPCL

Caleb Bradford

Longridge I

Successive appearances now for Caleb.  Wickets in the league on Saturday was followed by 4 for 16 in the cup on Sunday for the young SLA.  NPCL

James Ellis

Penrith I

Taking the new ball, James was once more in the wickets taking out the opposition numbers 1 & 3 batsmen and helping to put his team in control of the game. PS Prem.

Dylan Henshall

Blackpool II

Having a rare run out in the 2s, Dylan showed signs of finding some form with a dominant display against Leyland 2s.  His undefeated 61 saw his side through to a comfortable win.  PS1

Kendal I

Tom has been in the wickets this season but this week he batted three for Kendal and gave a reminder of his all-round talent.  NPCL

Josh Wills

His 5 for 24 against New Longton underlines an excellent start to the season for Josh who is leading the Torrisholme attack.  PS1

A very good day in the cup on Sunday for the all-rounder. Taking 3 for 17 with his left arm seam he then made 31 not out to see his side through to the cup semi-finals.  NPCL

Ashton Charles

St Annes II

A PS1 career best 44 for 15year-old opening bat earns him a first appearance in Colts of the Week team. PS1
