Thornton Cleveleys celebrated a fantastic end to the 2019 season, which has seen the club make real strides in terms of club and player development, with us competing right across a range of competitions.
Losing finalists in both the Division 2 T20 and the Meyler cup, the 1st team skippered by Dan Howard, went one better and capped off a fantastic League campaign to finish top of Division 1a winning promotion straight back to the Premier Division. TC were pushed all the way by a strong Tarleton team who posted a competitive total of 219/7 off their 45. TC’s top order anchored by 50s from both Ric Jenkinson and Tony Poxon laid the foundation for Ric Blampied 32* and skipper Dan, who blasted a quick fire 37* with a huge 6 to see TC home off 41 overs and cue fantastic celebrations at the Walla.
This was the second successive weekend for TC with our u21s Development side, skippered by Sam Curwen, crowned champions of Sunday Div 2 West following a good away win at Torrisholme last weekend. This re-enforced our decision to use our Sunday side to continue the development of a great crop of youngsters who are playing across our 3 Saturday teams. The team are looking forward to testing themselves in Division 1 next year.
All in all a great season for TC
