One year ago we were in the midst of the sunniest spring recorded in the UK and of course the first wave of Coronavirus.
Cricket was a distant memory as leather hadn't touched willow in the Palace Shield since September 2019, when Lancaster romped to the Premier Division Title.
A year on from that majestic May sunshine we enter step three of the ECB's roadmap for the return of cricket this week. This should be a time where we once again enjoy changing room camaraderie, spectators patrolling the boundary edge and the triumphant return of the clubhouse atmosphere.
So just one problem still remains, the good old British weather! With grounds no doubt saturated across Lancashire, loyal ground staff will be putting in the hard yards to ensure that play goes ahead tomorrow. Perhaps the brighter forecast is the only saving grace...
We hope for an uninterrupted schedule and if so there are some fascinating encounters in the Premier Division, starting at Illawalla as 3rd place Thornton Cleveleys take on league leaders Vernon Carus.
Elsewhere second placed Penwortham host Palace Shield new boys Barrow and South Shore make the long trip to Penrith, looking to record a first victory of the season.
"Best of the Rest"
Fulwood and Broughton 2nd XI (6th) vs Netherfield 2nd XI (1st)
Vernon Carus 2nd XI (2nd) vs Thornton Cleveleys 2nd XI (3rd)
Bretherton 1st XI (4th) vs Whittle Le Woods 1st XI (3rd)
Good luck to all teams and watch out for the Weekend Review early on next week.....
