Kirkham & Wesham v Barrow
This will be a good test for Kirkham who enjoyed a very good win last week at home to Cleveleys who I thought would be too strong. Kirkham’s batting of Brooks & Wright will again need to be at their best as they face a strong Barrow bowling attack.
Penrith v Fylde
A hard task faces Fylde with only one win so far this season. They face the trip to Penrith who are in good form in second place in the league. Asher Hart is a formidable resource with bat & ball especially at our standard of cricket. Fylde will need some heroics to get anything from the trip up the M6.
Preston v Great Eccleston
This will be an interesting clash, Preston are coming into some decent form after an inconsistent start. The issue is that they possess some very good cricketers who on their day are as good as any in the Shield. Gt Ecc also possess some good cricketers with Matt Moat, Will Thistlethwaite adding to the experience of Joe Davies. Skipper Phil Booth has played well with bat & ball. Should be a good game.
South Shore v Penwortham
South Shore are without a win this season and will be looking for a change of fortune against a strong Penwortham side. Maz Iqbal has been introduced to the 1st team to add some strength but a bowling attack off Armer, Patel & Billington I fear will be too strong for the Mad Nook lads.
Thornton Cleveleys v Eccleston
Cleveleys also need some consistency from their top order. Jon Eade has been their mainstay, but last week when he was out early they lost their top four wickets for not very many. Cleveleys are stronger at Illawalla knowing how to use conditions as well as the straight boundaries. Eccleston have a decent batting line up who haven’t put enough runs on the board. Could be a close game.
Vernon Carus v Croston
I was quite impressed with several players at Factory Lane last week. Matt Stevenson has undoubted ability with the bat whilst Ben Duerden is averaging 20 whist Bob Bridges has perfected a certain shot. Young Jacub Holland bowls with pace and Hadley Geirnaert adds a rare leg spin option. If Dunn & Allen are back from holiday they may be too strong for Croston who continue their rebuilding under the captaincy of Ian Dickinson. They did win last week at Eccleston but were reliant on runs from the evergreen Lee ChildsPreview 5th June 2021
